Table tennis tables are heavy and awkward to move around. If you don’t have a space where one can stay up permanently, a folding table is a huge advantage, because you can fold it up and roll it out of the way when you’ve finished playing. Not every table folds, so we’ve put together the best ones that do.
Folding tables come in a few types. Before you buy one, think about whether it takes one person or two to fold, how the fold works, and how deep it is once it’s folded, so you know it’ll fit where you plan to keep it.
I’ve coached at a lot of clubs, and storing plenty of tables in a small space is always critical. We look for tables that slot together neatly and roll easily from the storeroom out into the main hall. At home, you might be fitting one next to the car in the garage.
My pick is the STIGA Elite Roller, because one person can fold it and roll it away on its 125mm wheels. For tight storage I’d buy the Butterfly Space Saver 22, and on a budget the JOOLA Inside.
Two independent halves on 125mm wheels, a 22mm top and a playback position. One person can fold it and roll it away.
A center-fold table that folds to 19 inches deep and arrives fully assembled. One careful person can fold it, but I'd use two, and there's no playback position.
Independent halves on eight 3-inch locking wheels, with a playback position and a 15mm top.
For a patio, the Cornilleau 300X and the cheaper JOOLA NOVA DX are the outdoor picks. To check a table against your own storage space, use the depth box in the comparison below.

Sizes are the manufacturers' folded figures at the deepest point, which on a two-piece table is the wheel bases at floor level. "Unconfirmed" means we couldn't confirm a playback position from the maker.
Folded Footprint, Drawn to Scale
An open table covers 45 square feet of floor. Folded, most of these take up 8 to 14 square feet, roughly 70 to 80 percent less. Pick a table below to see its footprint inside the open table, and its folded height next to a door.
The pale outline is the open 9 x 5 ft table. The solid block is the same table folded away.
Folded: 60 x 23.5 x 67.5 in · 9.8 sq ft of floor · 78% less than open
Folded tables roll through a doorway on their narrow side. A standard interior door opening is about 30 to 32 in wide and 80 in high.
The Best Foldable Ping Pong Tables
In each pick’s box I’ve listed the folded size as width x depth x height, from the manufacturer’s figures. Under it, I’ve written up what each table is like to fold and move.
Best Overall: STIGA Elite Roller
STIGA Elite Roller
Two independent halves on 125mm wheels, a 22mm top and a playback position. One person can fold it and roll it away.
Each half of the Elite Roller folds on its own, so one person can stand it up, roll it and park it without help. A red locking bar runs across the table, and you lift it before lowering a half slowly to play.
One half up, and the table turns into a practice wall.
I like the wheels most. They’re 125mm rubber-treaded casters, four per half, with foot locks. They rolled easily on our hall floor, and when locked the table stayed put during play. The one thing I’d change is the height adjustment on the wheel side, which is fiddly to reach.
It folds to 23.5 inches deep, a few inches more than the center-folds. I’d still buy it for a garage or games room where the table comes out most days, because folding it doesn’t need two people. Our Elite Roller review covers how the 22mm top plays.
Best for Tight Storage: Butterfly Space Saver 22
Butterfly Space Saver 22
A center-fold table that folds to 19 inches deep and arrives fully assembled. One careful person can fold it, but I'd use two, and there's no playback position.
The Space Saver folds at the center, so both halves come up together into one upright unit 19 inches deep. That’s narrow enough to stand along most garage walls beside a car, or to roll into a corridor where a two-piece table won’t go.
Both halves up together and ready to roll into the storeroom.
It arrives fully assembled, so getting it out of the box is easy. Both halves move together and the table weighs 215 lb. One careful person can fold it, but I’d always use two: one of you pulls back each side, then you lift and lower it together.
The Donic Delhi below folds half an inch thinner. I’d still put most home buyers on the Space Saver, because it’s 50 lb lighter. You notice that every time the two of you fold it. There’s no playback, and the surface scratches more easily than I’d expect at this price, so fold it with care. I go into the bounce from its 22mm top in our Space Saver 22 review.
Best Tournament-Grade: Butterfly Centrefold 25
Butterfly Centrefold 25
The center-fold design with an ITTF-approved 25mm top, so there's no gap at the net. Arrives assembled. At 280 lb, fold it with two people. No playback position.
The Centrefold 25 uses the Space Saver’s center-fold design with a thicker 25mm top. Because the halves join in the middle, there’s no gap under the net when it’s open, and the bounce is even across the whole surface. Of everything here, it’s the one I’d most like to play on.
Folded in the corner of the hall between sessions.
It arrives assembled. The catch is 280 lb moving as one piece. One careful person can fold it, but I’d have two, and getting it into position takes two or three strong adults. It rolls well once it’s there, so it suits a room where it stays put and only folds away for cleaning or events. Our Centrefold 25 review goes into the tournament surface in detail.
Best 25mm Value: Donic Delhi 25
Donic Delhi
An ITTF-approved 25mm table that arrives fully assembled. Both halves fold up together to 18.5 inches deep, the thinnest fold here. One careful person can fold it, but two is safer, and there's no playback.
The Delhi is the thinnest fold on this page at 18.5 inches. It’s a center-fold like the two Butterfly tables: both halves come up together on one undercarriage, and the folded table feels solid when you roll it. It also arrives fully assembled, so it plays straight out of the box.
The underside, which is the side you’ll see most of the year.
A careful person can fold it alone on flat ground, but I’d use two. We’ve had hinges damaged when someone tried it solo. There’s no playback, because the halves don’t stand on their own.
I’d point a serious player here if they want a 25mm center-fold and can’t stretch to the Centrefold. There’s more on how it plays in our Donic Delhi review.
Best With Playback: Donic Waldner Premium 30
Donic Waldner Premium 30
A 30mm top on a two-piece frame with 4-inch braked wheels and a playback position.
If you play seriously and want a playback position, the Waldner Premium 30 is the table. It has a 30mm top on a heavy frame. Each half folds up on its own, and the locks engage by themselves when a half is fully open or closed.
One half up for solo drills.
Its 4-inch wheels are bigger than the 2 to 3 inch casters on most budget tables, and they keep it moving on slightly uneven floors. During testing one person could move each half confidently.
It folds to 26 inches deep, so it needs more wall space than the center-folds. Our Waldner Premium 30 review has the full test.
Easiest to Move: Butterfly Aspire 25
Butterfly Aspire 25
Eight 7-inch wheels that all lock, and a safety-pin fold one person can manage.
The Aspire 25 rolls on eight 7-inch casters, the biggest wheels on this page. They roll over a garage floor or a door threshold where small casters catch.
Seven-inch casters, big enough to roll over a door threshold.
Each half locks with a safety pin. Pull the pin, guide the half upright and it locks; to open it, pull the pin again and lower the half. One person can set it up and put it away. Assembly is mostly fitting the wheels and takes about 15 minutes.
Folded, it’s 30 inches (76 cm) deep, about the same as the Cornilleau 300X and Kettler Axos. In our Aspire review I compare all four models in the range.
Best Budget: JOOLA Inside 15
JOOLA Inside 15
Independent halves on eight 3-inch locking wheels, with a playback position and a 15mm top.
The JOOLA Inside is the folding table I’d buy on a tight budget. We tested the Inside 18, and the 15 shares its design: independent halves and the same lift-and-lock catch, with a thinner top and a lighter frame. Each half folds upright and stands on four 3-inch locking wheels.
Our test Inside 18 in playback mode, ready for solo serves.
Watch the leg braces. They lock the legs in place, and if you fold a half with the braces still locked, you can bend them. The catch that holds a folded half is small and could be sturdier.
The 15mm top is fine for family games and beginners. If you can spend a little more, the Inside 18 we tested has the better bounce. Our JOOLA Inside review covers both.
Cheapest From a Big Brand: STIGA Advantage Lite
Stiga Advantage Lite
A two-piece STIGA with a playback position and red safety latches. The 12mm top suits casual games.
The Advantage Lite is the cheapest table here, and the one to buy if the table is mainly for casual family games. It has two completely separate halves, a playback position and red safety latches that lock each half when it’s upright.
The top is 12mm, and on a top that thin the bounce goes low and uneven sooner than on a 15mm or thicker table. The 2-inch wheels are small for a garage floor too. At 28 inches deep folded, it’s also the deepest of the two-piece tables here. For regular play, I’d spend the extra on the JOOLA Inside.
Best Outdoor: Cornilleau 300X
Cornilleau 300X Outdoor
A weatherproof 5mm laminate top on 200mm double wheels, folding to 29.5 inches deep.
An indoor table can warp in an unheated garage or on a patio. The Cornilleau 300X is built to live outside, with a 5mm laminate top that copes with rain and a frame built not to rust. It sits on one shared undercarriage, so it moves as a single unit. Each half still folds up on its own, which gives you a playback position.
The wheels are why it’s the outdoor pick. At 200mm they’re more than twice the size of the NOVA DX’s 3-inch casters, and there are two brakes. Cornilleau also locks the table in both the playing and the folded position, which I like on a table that may sit outside unattended.
It folds to 29.5 inches deep, so it’s bulky to store. Outdoors that matters less, and a ping pong table cover keeps the worst of the weather off it.
Best Budget Outdoor: JOOLA NOVA DX
JOOLA Nova DX Outdoor
A 6mm aluminum composite top, a playback position and eight 3-inch locking wheels. Folds to 22 inches deep.
The NOVA DX costs well under half the Cornilleau’s usual price and folds much thinner, to 22 inches deep. It’s the one I’d point a family to for a patio. The top is a 6mm aluminum composite that copes with rain, and each half rolls on its own four-wheel trolley.
When you fold it, anti-tilt locks engage on each half automatically. To open it, you press a lever and the half lowers itself. It has a playback position, and all eight casters lock.
The 3-inch wheels are the trade-off. They suit a smooth patio, and on grass I’d expect the Cornilleau’s 8-inch double wheels to roll far more easily.
Checking a Folded Table Against Your Space
Measure your storage spot first, then type its depth into the comparison. Three spaces cover most homes.
The depths I’ve used are the manufacturers’ figures for the deepest point of the folded table. On a two-piece table, the two tops stand almost flat against each other, so it’s thin at the top. Each half needs its own wheeled base to stand up, though, and those two bases side by side at floor level are what make it 22 to 28 inches deep. A center-fold sits on one shared undercarriage, which is why it ends up thinner overall at 18.5 to 19 inches. Width works the same way: most tables are 60 inches across, the width of the top, but a few, like the Cornilleau 300X and Kettler Axos, measure wider because their wheels sit outside the top.
Garage wall beside a car. Measure the gap between the car and the wall at floor level, where the wheels will be; 2 feet is common. The three center-folds, at 18.5 to 19 inches deep, fit that with room to spare. Tables around 23 to 24 inches are tight, and anything over 25 inches probably means moving the car.
Hall closet or under the stairs. Height is the limit here. Every table I’ve picked stands 60 to 67.5 inches tall when folded, so a closet with a low shelf or a sloping ceiling often rules out the taller ones.
Doorways. A folded table rolls through a door on its narrow side. Standard interior doors open to about 30 to 32 inches wide and 80 inches high, and every table here clears that, though the 29.5-inch Cornilleau leaves little room. Two-piece tables are easier, because you can roll each half through on its own.
Check how much room you need to play as well, so the table has somewhere to open up.
How Foldable Ping Pong Tables Fold
How a table folds sets its folded depth, whether you get playback, and whether you can put it away alone.
How the four fold types compare

-
Two-piece rollaway
Two separate halves, each on its own legs and wheels. You fold each half up on its own and roll the two halves together.
Tell-tale: A full set of legs and wheels under each half, so the halves come apart completely.

One-piece rollaway
One undercarriage, but each half folds up on its own, so you get playback and the table still rolls away as one unit.
Tell-tale: One undercarriage in the middle with a separate pivot for each half, and a gap between the folded halves.

Center-fold
Both halves rise together in one motion on one undercarriage, so it folds thin, but there's no playback.
Tell-tale: One hinge at the net, with the halves linked so they rise together and close face to face.

Two-Piece Rollaway
This is the most common design. Each half has its own legs and wheels, so you fold and move one half at a time, and one person can do it. Almost every model has playback. Two separate halves parked together usually sit 22 to 28 inches deep, a few inches more than a center-fold.
One-Piece Rollaway
Both halves sit on a single undercarriage, but each one folds up on its own, so you usually get playback and the table still rolls away as one unit. The outdoor Cornilleau folds this way, to 29.5 inches deep. One person can fold it, because each half goes up on its own. You can’t split the halves to get through a narrow door, though, so you move the whole weight every time.
Center-Fold
The top hinges in the middle and both halves come up together in one motion. Open, there’s no gap at the net, which is why tournament tables like the Centrefold use it. Folded, the two Butterfly tables and the Donic Delhi are 18.5 to 19 inches deep, the thinnest of my picks. They’re heavy and have no playback. The mechanism lifts both halves at once, so one person can fold them, but I find it tricky on my own and recommend two.
Fold-Flat
The two halves come apart, the legs fold into each one, and the halves are stored flat against a wall. It’s the thinnest storage of all. Butterfly’s Compact 19 stores each half about 5.5 inches deep, so both together take about 11 inches. Each half only has two small fixed wheels to tilt onto, so moving a half is a two-person job. There’s no playback either, and every game starts with unfolding the legs and pushing the halves together. None of my picks fold this way for that reason.
What to Check Before You Buy a Folding Table
Our main guide to table tennis tables covers top thickness and brands. These are the extra checks for a table that folds.
Folded Depth and Height
Look for the folded size in inches. Retailers often call a table “compact” without saying how compact. Check the depth against your wall space and the height against your closet or doorway. If a listing gives only one set of dimensions, check it isn’t the open size.
One-Person Folding
One person can fold any rollaway table, two-piece or one-piece, because each half goes up on its own. Look for latches that lock on their own when the half is upright and a release you have to operate on purpose. On a center-fold table both halves come up together, which one person can do, but our reviews of the Space Saver and the Delhi both found it easier with two. Fold-flat tables need two people, because one person can’t carry half a table.
Wheels: Size, Count and Locks
Casters of 2 to 3 inches are fine on smooth floors. On a garage floor, a door threshold or grass, wheels of 4 inches and up roll far better. Check how many wheels lock as well. A table with brakes on only two wheels can still shift when you lean on it.
Playback, and When a Robot Makes More Sense
Playback means standing one half upright so the ball comes back to you. It’s useful for serves and warming up. Most two-piece tables have it; center-folds don’t, because both halves fold together. If practicing on your own is the main reason you want a table, a table tennis robot gives you spin, placement and pace that a playback half can’t.
Indoor vs Outdoor, and the Garage Problem
Indoor tops are wood or MDF, and damp warps them. An unheated garage that swings between hot summers and cold, humid winters is hard on an indoor top. If the table will live in a garage like that, buy an outdoor table or store it inside. Either way, look after the surface and fold it with the playing faces together.
Weight, Stairs and Delivery
Most of these tables weigh 140 to 290 lb and arrive in one large box or two heavy crates. Check the box will fit through your doors and down any stairs, and have a second person for delivery day. Tables that arrive assembled, like the Space Saver, Centrefold and Delhi, save you the build but are heavy to unbox.
Safety With Kids
Kids will climb on a folded table and hang off the edges if you let them. Lock the wheels whenever it’s stored, keep the release levers out of reach, and make folding and unfolding an adult job. Rounded corners help too, if the table will live in a playroom.
If a full-size table won’t fit anywhere, look at mini ping pong tables or a conversion top for a dining table instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are foldable ping pong tables full size?
Yes. Every table I've picked is a regulation 9 x 5 ft (2.74 x 1.525 m) table, 30 inches high, when it's open. Folding only changes how it's stored. Mini and midsize tables are a different category, and many of those fold too, so check the open size on any listing that says "foldable".
How much space does a folded ping pong table take up?
Most full-size folding tables fold to about 60 to 66 inches wide, 18.5 to 29.5 inches deep and 60 to 67.5 inches high. That's roughly 8 to 14 square feet of floor, against 45 square feet open. The Donic Delhi 25 is the thinnest here at 18.5 inches, with the Butterfly center-folds at 19.
Can one person fold a ping pong table?
On a rollaway table, yes. Each half folds up on its own, so tables like the STIGA Elite Roller and Butterfly Aspire are easy to handle alone. Center-fold tables like the Butterfly Space Saver 22 lift 215 to 280 lb at once. One person can fold them, but I'd recommend two. Fold-flat tables, where you carry each half, always need two people.
Will a folded ping pong table fit through a door?
Usually, yes. A standard interior door opens to about 30 to 32 inches wide and 80 inches high. Most folded tables are 18.5 to 29.5 inches deep and no more than 67.5 inches high, so they roll through on their narrow side. Two-piece tables can go through one half at a time.
Can you keep a folding ping pong table in the garage?
An outdoor folding table, yes. An indoor table can warp in an unheated garage that gets humid or very cold, because the top is wood or MDF. If your garage stays dry and fairly even in temperature, an indoor table can work. Otherwise buy an outdoor model like the JOOLA NOVA DX or Cornilleau 300X.
What is playback mode on a ping pong table?
Playback mode means folding one half upright while the other stays flat, so the ball rebounds back to you. It's good for serve practice and warming up alone. Most two-piece tables have it, including the STIGA Elite Roller, Donic Waldner Premium 30 and JOOLA Inside. Center-fold tables like the Butterfly Space Saver and Donic Delhi don't.
Do folding ping pong tables play as well as non-folding tables?
A good one does. Top thickness and the frame under it decide the bounce, not whether the table folds. The Butterfly Centrefold 25 is an ITTF-approved 25mm table that folds to 19 inches deep. Center-fold designs also close the gap at the net, so the surface plays as one piece.
How much does a good foldable ping pong table cost?
Budget folding tables from the big brands start at roughly $400 to $500, with 12mm to 15mm tops for casual play. Tables with 22mm to 30mm tops, sturdier frames and better wheels run from about $900 to over $2,000. Outdoor folding tables range from about $500 to $1,250.
How do you fold a ping pong table?
Remove the net, lock the wheels, then release the safety latch on one half and lift it until it locks upright. On a two-piece table, repeat with the other half and roll the two together. On a center-fold table both halves come up together, so have a second person help with the weight.
For most people who need a full-size table to fold away, the STIGA Elite Roller is the one to buy, because you can fold it and roll it away on your own. If every inch of wall counts, get the Space Saver 22 and a friend to help fold it.
